New Sustainable Bamboo Chopsticks
Each year China uses approximately 45 million disposable chopsticks, while Japan uses 25 million. As a result, China, the largest producer and exporter of disposable chopsticks, throws away 25 million fully grown trees Annually. Here at The Pearl Sushi Land, we are introducing new reusable bamboo chopsticks to help reduce our environmental impact. Bamboo is a sustainable material that does not require pesticides or chemicals, and only needs a small amount of water to grow.

Breakfast in Bed with Sushi Land - 2009
Early on the morning of December 20, 2009, a group of Sushi Land employees brought and served a full buffet-style breakfast to a "warming shelter" in Portland, Oregon. Human Solutions runs this shelter to temporarily get homeless families and women off the street during the night hours of the winter months. Lack of funds means that its just a building with just a couple of bathrooms and wall to wall beds, but its a lot because its a warm shelter from the cold. For people who normally go without breakfast, or at most eat cold cereal, a hot breakfast seemed most appreciated and the smiles on the faces of these people who have been through so much, said it all. Along with breakfast, the children were all given age-appropriate presents. It was a little bit of Christmas for a group of people who otherwise wouldn't have had much of a Christmas!
